- The Eagles
- Year Released
This song was written by Bernie Leadon after his good friend Gram Parsons had passed away. Both Bernie and Gram are country rock legends in their own right, though most people will probably only know of Gram. Bernie was a session musician (guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, dobro) usually behind the scenes, who, after playing with Dillard and Clark and The Flying Burrito Brothers went on to help form The Eagles with Glen Frey, Don Henley and Randy Meisner. If that wasn’t enough, he later played with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the early 80’s on their most famous album ‘Hold On’ which features their hit ‘Fishin in the Dark.’ This song is special though because Bernie not only wrote it, but he sings it too, which was something unusual for him. You can hear the honesty in the lyrics and vocals, which is what makes this song stand apart from the rest of his repertoire.
