I’m not really a big Joni Mitchell fan or at least I haven’t listened to enough of her music to really know, but after having see her perform this song on The Band’s Last Waltz I came to love this song (embedding of that version was not allowed). She tells a great story that you can easily follow, a trait of a trained folk songwriter. But what’s more impressive is her unique vocal phrasing and alliteration; her ability to be both a vocalist and poet. She really does have a way with words, one in which I don’t think any other singer could quite master the same way she has.
I believed the song to be so creative and compelling in narrative that I used the name ‘Highway Coyote’ for my first portfolio website under the imagery of a dream catcher. It was a fun project and I’m grateful to have that kind of inspiration.
