michael lynch

Hello. My name is Michael Lynch and I am a web developer and UI designer. This is my website that hosts my portfolio and blog.

My Career

As a junior web developer I have worked full time in Toronto at Montana Steele Advertising, Nubrand, and a handful of other small-to-mid sized digital agencies. As a freelancer I have also done ongoing contract work with Bureau Group, Rhyme With Orange Creative, 86 Interactive and Exclaim! magazine.

I’m currently working full time at Teehan+Lax.

My Education

Before working full time I studied media theory at the University of Western and media production at Fanshawe College with a concentration on web development. The following year I completed a graduate program in advanced web development (also at Fashawe College).

While at school I designed and developed a web application called iData. It’s used to archive, share and comment on statistical data like surveys, research and polls. I am proud to say I won an Applied Arts student award for the project.

My Interests

In my spare time I am currently designing and building two more personal projects: Toronto Type, a website showcasing typography on Toronto streets and Minyl, a very simple web application used to track your vinyl collection.

Work aside, I like to read non-fiction, mainly cultural theory and philosophy. Some of my favorite authors are Peter Singer, Richard Dawkins, Malcolm Gladwell, Jeremy Rifkin, and Bill Bryson.

I really enjoy musicĀ of the seventies and eighties, particularly country rock music. I also like some classic rock, folk, disco, jazz, classical and even some shoegaze. I play drums in a local band called The Flying Museum Band. You can catch us playing at Rancho Relaxo every now and then.

Most of the time I’m hanging out at coffee shops reading The Grid, playing tennis (seasonally), going to movies and having drinks with my friends.

I think that’s about it. Thanks for stopping by.
